They scan the code and find their name, or type their ID. No account, no app, no location tracking. If a phone camera won’t cooperate, they can type the short code shown on the classroom screen instead.

Once students have checked in, create groups from the people in the room — not the people who were supposed to be there.

Choose roughly how many people you want in each group. HereHere! keeps the sizes as even as it can, and takes previous groupings into account.

Create new combinations, so students work with different classmates.

Need one voice rather than several? Pick chooses someone fairly from the students who are here, and remembers who has already had a turn.

Show the check-in code while students arrive, switch to the groups when you’re ready, or blank the screen. Nothing changes in the room until you choose it.

Add course collaborators and they manage the same course, sessions and attendance as you — included on every plan. Or share a presenting link so someone can show the classroom screen from another computer without an account.

The QR code and the typed code both change during the session, so a screenshot passed to a friend stops working quickly. One browser can only check in one student per day, and you can always correct a record yourself.

Attendance downloads as a spreadsheet file whenever you need it, ready to upload into Canvas or anywhere else.
